Saturdays brought mixed feelings. The thought of no school was good, but the thought of cleaning the barn wasn't. Dad would pull the manure spreader up to the door and we would all grab a pitch fork. Thankfully, our cousins never figured it out when we would invite them over to spend Friday night.

The pasture south of the farm along highway 28 provided us a lake for about two weeks out of the year as it served as a holding pond while the creeks caught back up. We would frequently see carp swimming about and, if we got lucky, we would even see a Northern.
